~The bright moonlight shone down upon the ancient and sacred forest of Kaerin. Pastel blue clouds were smudged across the starlit sky, ocassionally sliding in front of the cresent moon's way. Down below, the forest was drentched in a thick fog; the ocean of the mist swirled benieth the parched grey bark of the burnt giants of pine. It seemed as if a deadly fire had passed by this forest not too many nights ago, as you could still catch the faint scent of smoke in the night air. Shriveled up bodies of young trees and ferns were scattered throughout the forest floor, along with several remains of some creatures that roamed the forest.~
~In the heart of this wood was a small clearing, where a lone, toppled over cherry tree stood in the very center. The spindly silver branches of the tree seemed to reach out at the sky, each branch curving elegantly from the thick trunk. Strangely, the freshly blossoming powder-pink flowers seemed to disagree with the cherry tree's dying state. Beside this tree was a massive skeleton of a creature that resembled a bird of some sort. It was lying on its back with a large bone-spear sticking out of its chest. Directly underneith this white skeleton was what appeared to be a black stain that ran across the entire ground of the clearing, but this was mostly covered by a sea of thinning fog. A faint scent of rotting flesh and blood hung still in the night air.~
~In the middle of this chaotic scence, a soft white glow could be seen emmiting off a lone figure underneith a fallen cherry tree. The figure would have appeared to be only a mere human girl in pure white robes, but the pair of crimson wings protruding from her back marked that she was another creature. There was a small, red phoenix embroidered at the tip of her robes, along with a matching red sash tied at her waist. Tied on the side of this was a longsword; a sleek, slightly curved, white blade with a golden handle, which was carved into what looked like a phoenix with open wings. You didn't have to look very closely to notice that the handle was stained with blood. This blade was held within a dark crimson sheath; it seemed like the sheath had been dipped in blood to make such a color.~
~The figure was standing under the cherry tree, so that the moonlight shone almost directly down to her. This revealed her pale face and her reddish-black hair reached her shoulders, comming down in several messy bangs down the sides of her forehead. Her eyes were of the same color as her hair, a dark red, and when you looked into them, you could see a comepletely different creature staring back at you, namely, a phoenix. But depending on when you looked into her eyes, you would see two different versions of this phoenix, one was of a majestic red, like the royalty of the birds, the other form however, was pure black, as if it had come from the depths of hell.~
~Today, she would leave this dead forest, to the Suzaka Temple. She gave a final look at her beloved forest before turning north and beginning her slow walk there. It was nothing but the same, spindly dead trees on either side of her for the next little while. Out of pure boredom, she brushed her right hand agaisnt the bark of the passing trees. A lively, bluish-white flame burst from the dead bark, but instead of burning it, the fire slowly began to revive the tree. For a while she brought the trees next to her back to life, but the more trees she gave life to, the more tired she became. She lowered her hand back to her side; it would prove to be nearly impossible to bring back the entire forest. . .~
~After about half an hours worth of walking, she finally reached the edge of the forest, where a quick, bubbling river ran directly in her path. Here, she could occasionally see trees that had survived the fire's wrath. She stepped on one of the many pale grey boulders lining the river. Crouching down, she placed her cupped hands into the cool water of the river and brought her hands back up to her lips. She drank the water, refreshing herself a bit before rising up to continue her short journey to the Suzaka Temple. A low wind sped playfully around the ground, sweeping up the chilly air and various particles of foliage. With a gracefull leap, she sailed over the river and onto the other side, arriving at the Meadow of Morogan .~
~The field was vast and filled with what seemed like an endless sea of swishing grasses. Several old boulders stuck out from the hilly meadow. It was clear of almost all trees, save a single twisted maple a little ways off from the river. The fire had ended on the other side of the river, so this field was saved from it. She looked at the open sky, from here she could clearly see the cresent moon among the bright stars and clouds. It was unimaginably beautiful. For an unknown time she gazed at the night sky, engulfed by its pure beauty and magnificance. Finally, she lowered her head and sighed, she had to continue onwards. Walking through the waist-high grasses, she soon found that her clothes and wings were covered with a fine night dew from the grass. She didn't turn back to look at the forest and all she left behind was a faint trail of footprints on the ground.~
~Halfway across this field, she could spot the edge of yet another forest. She immeadiately recognized this place as the Forest of Spirits. It earned a reputation for being filled with ghosts and phantoms of all sorts, humans, animals, and other creatures. Sometimes people that had done unforgivable things in the past or were broken hearted would hear and see the spirits and would be driven mad if they stepped into this forest. For this reason, people had sometimes called it 'Lost Lover's HeII'. From her memory, she recalled this forest being impossible to travel through in the night. She also recalled that she was in a half crazed state when she had entered the forest, and barely been able to keep the rest of her sanity before luckily, rushing through the last of the forest and through the gates of the Suzaka Temple.~
~She sighed softy and spotted a boulder peeking out from the grass. Taking a seat on the face of the surprisingly flat boulder, she decided there was nothing she could do tonight to get through the Forest of Spirits, so she might as well try and wait the night out. Crossing her arms behind her head, she laid down on the rock and stared blankly into the starlit sky. ~
