She glared. "Why would you need 'the runt'? I mean, for crying out loud, warm welcomes are all good and dandy but I can understand if yer all preoccupied with your own lovely little lives. Clear malevolence on the other hand is a totally different story- and appearently there was enough time for that." Alleyway Lin remaind seated, refusing to follow. With an irritated and somewhat injured look, she crossed her arms on her chest.

The deep booming was getting closer. "Look Lin, there's no time for this now, we'll discuss it later." He looked urgently in the direction of the booming. "However if you don't come, I fear there won't BE a later. Now quit feeling sorry for yourself and hurry." Roth shook his head, shocked at how much he sounded like a parent. "Just hurry," and without another word he left the woods quickly, and joined the others.

Karma watched as Roth came back as the earth practically shook. "Roth, what the hell is going on?" She asked.

Alleyway glared after him and the falcon chirped a scolding.
"Oh be quiet- you sound just like him." Sighing she stood up, climbed a tree and moved from branch to branch along the canopy until she could look down and across a few yards to where the rest of the group was. She had a certain love for shadow magic, despite superstitions that 'shadow' and 'evil' were synonomous. So now she stood, in the shadows of the canopy, the falcon on a nearby branch. Lin was more than a little tempted to summon some of the dark semi-liquid like stuff, but had to resist, just in case Roth hadn't gone senile.

Roth walked briskly past the two, gesturing for them to remain where they were. He went to the top of a hill and looked around. It was too dark, and the rain didn't help. He wiped a stray drop of water from his face and searched the horizon. Suddenly Roth froze, and nothing could be heard except the soft patter of the rain. Roth squinted into the semi-darkness once more. Why had the booming stopped? He could see nothing, and even as he was knocked off his feet he was still trying to solve the riddle. He flew backwards, his arms and legs in front of him. He tried to cushion his landing but still tumbled backwards into the mud as he landed. His staff went soaring overhead, but he raised his hand, palm open and it zipped into it quickly. He could still see nothing, but heard a low whoosh as something sped towards him once more. He leapt to his feet and brandished his staff. All at once the whooshing stopped. Roth stared at questioningly at the direction of it's source. He still could see nothing, but sensed something behind him, and ducked at the last instant as something invisible sped over him.

Lin hesitated, but the falcon didn't. Appearently the spell didn't work against animals. Mithinrei spiraled up into the air before performing the signature sky-dive that killed anything smaller than a medium-sized dog instantly. Appearently whatever it was was considerably bigger than a medium-sized dog.
Lin blinked and for about a second she saw it's shadow. What is that thing? she wondered. Still, it had attacked 'uncle' Roth and thus deserved a long and painfull death. Sounded like fun. Now, where the heck was her scythe? Finding it where she had left it, Lin sliped into the shadows behind the mass of air that Mithinrei had taken to harrassing and jumped out, the blade of the huge scythe singing as it ripped through the air.

Roth squinted into the rain. Surely something should give it away. Rain fell on his face and he had it. He could see a faint outline of the thing where the rain hit it. "Gothca," he said, then muttered a few words and pointed his staff at the area. The creature became visible. It was on four legs, hunched over. It was vaguely human in shape, but long fangs protruded from a snarling mouth. Instead of skin it was covered in a thick black fur. It's feet were tipped with long claws, which stuck into the muddy earth. It's head was flat and apparently had a very thick skull, which would explain how it sent Roth flying. It had four glowing eyes which chilled Roth. The creature prepared to charge once more.

She was already coming down on top of it, but the being able to see the creature made things easier for the prankster. The scythe was a blur of black and seemed to make a huge splash of deflected rain water as it came down at an angle. The thing screamed in pain as a huge gash was left at a diagonal down it's back.
Coming down, Lin landed on her butt in a not-so-muddy place but didn't get up fast enough. The pain-maddened creature turned and rushed her, blood seeping from it's back in turrets..

(Torrents, not turrets ) Roth saw it rush Lin, and ran at it suprisingly qickly. Within an instant, he was level with it, and his staff cracked it heavily over the head. It lurched forward awkwardly before landing on it's side. Instead of staying there, it rolled to it's feet and raced off into the dark. "He'll be back, I imagine," Roth said simply, and turned to walk away.

Karma looked around as the fight ended. "um...what happened just now?" She asked and shook her head and looked to Linith. "WHat are we, mimes?!"

"So it would seem," Roth said slyly. "That was the enemy. Well, one of the lesser ones at least." He shook his head. "It was only a scout, and soon enough every one of the Dark Lord's soldiers will know where we are." He shook his head again. "If it wasn't a scout, it wouldn't have stopped trying to kill us until it had died," he looked around. "And there would have been many more of them." "So, shall we get a move on?"

Karma nodded. "Yeah, we should. If I remember correctly, you're pretty much right all the time, Roth." She said. "And if you say the enemy is coming back, then...well its probably coming back..."

Roth nodded, and began walking in the direction they'd just come from. "That scout has probably been watching us for several hours," he explained. "It'll tell it's master which way we were heading, and they'll move to cut us off." His staff was grasped loosely in his right hand. The rain had started to taper off, and the sun peeked through dark storm clouds.

Karma nodded and followed but looked back at Lin and Linith. "Are you guys coming or just going to stand there?"

"I think I'm gonna SIT here if it's okay with you guys." She lay down on her back, determined not to get up. Anything to cause trouble. And she was still mad at them.
A screech could be heard in the trees above as the falcon flew down, making it's presence known. "You're not my MOTHER Mythinrei!" It leaned forward adn continued to scold.
