Perched on a rather long blade of grass, was a cricket ; it was about as long as a small finger, and as black as the night above. The last of the sun had dissapeared from the horizon and the first stars had begun to reveal themselves among the cloudless spots in the sky. Peeking out cautiously from the tall grass, the cricket skuttled bit by bit to the very tip of the blade. Although this tiny creature would usually fall prey to bats and other insects, it's song was tonight's entertainment for the creatures of the forest. With a steady stream of high and low chirps, the insect began the melody of the night. The gentle night winds were strumming through the trees, creating a whispering chorus. Only the occasional shuffling of the forest's animal residents and a light crackling of a fire punctured the night song.
Around the brightly burning fire, lay a chestnut brown horse with a dark mane, a good-sized rawhide bag containing a few coins and a waterskin, and a two-legged creature, which had quickly slid away into a tree. Nibbling on a mouthful of grass, Omigi watched her hungry companion slither up the twisted branches of the tree overlooking their small campsite. Omigi tore another chunck of grass from beside her and resumed watching her rider. What a strange creature Damaris was. She looked like a lizard, walked like a human, and hunted like a beast. The mare stared at Damaris for a few bit more, until she had disappeared into the branches.
Heaving herself onto a sturdy limb, Damaris flipped onto her belly and lay still for a moment. She was temporarily drained of energy. The reptile yawned widely, pulling back her scaleless lips and face to reveal a full house of ivory-colored fangs. Her slit-like nostrils, which were positioned at the tip of a smooth, dog-like snout, curled simontaniously. If Damaris was to stand, her full height of 5"4' wouldn't be as intimidating as the twin spikes that potruded downwards from Damaris' lower arms and legs. That particular section of the arms and legs were protected by a specialized leather gauntlet.
An electric blue tossle of hair ran from Damaris' upper forehead and ended at the base of her neck. Her hair would curve up natrually into the shape of a rooster's crown, and be long enough to just be within the nibbling range of her teeth. The only visable ears were two large punctures on the sides of her head, much like an iguana's. And as for Damaris' hands, they were just like those of a human's, except that the nails were inch-long claws. Her feet, were no different from a raptor's ; the second toe was equipted with a large sickle claw. Both her hands and feet were bound by bandages, as her upper arms, waist, and lower thighs were held by three silver buckles each. Several metal rings could be seen at the end of the tail. And underneith all of this, was a simple, hazel-brown shirt and shorts.
Unless a creature was gifted a pair of eyes keen enough to see in the dark, the lizard-lady would remain completely concealed in the branches of the trees. Damaris scanned the ground below with her aqua eyes ; maybe something edible would wander by. Mabye. The only sign of tension, was the slow flicking back and forth of the lizard's tail.
