(Um...I guess it...half worked? That should work.)
As the orange haze settled, Derek saw dark figures moving. One was down on one knee, and the other was still advancing, although not quite as sure of himself. Both of them were very much conscious. Derek considered the advancing Owl, mentally prodding the armor for soft spots. Derek was pretty sure there was only a rubbery seal about half an inch wide covering the lower neck. Derek hopped back, then stepped into the throw. The dirk sped toward the center of the black band, and stuck in about three quarters of the way. The Owl stiffened a moment before collapsing with a clang, convulsing slightly. The other Owl was recovering, slowly climbing to his feet. "Would you like this one?" he asked Harue politely.

"Uh..." Harue said looking at the Owls. SHe shook her head. "He's all yours." She murmured, rummaging through her bag again but mostly just looking for a place to hide her eyes. 'I didn't want to kill anyone...' She thought. 'People just don't listen anymore.'

Derek flashed her a toothy grin. As the Owl groggily raised his weapon Derek leapt at him, planting both feet on his chest and following him to the floor with a drawn dagger. He jumped to his feet a moment later and walked back towards Harue, stooping to pull the dagger out of the other Owl's neck. "There will be more of them soon," he said as he wiped off the pair of blades. "We need to keep moving."

Harue nodded and replaced her backpack then glanced back at them. "You couldn't have just wounded them enough that they wouldn't move? Or disarm them or something?" She asked.

Derek shook his head. "That's far too risky. The suits can take over almost completely if their occupant is injured. We could have broken every bone in their body and the suit would have kept them going. It reads brainwaves or something, so we needed to stop the brain." He looked at the bodies with distaste. "Besides, the world never suffers from a few less Owls."

Harue nodded, obviously defeated by Derek's knowledge. "Lets get out of here..." She muttered but didn't move. She really still wasn't sure which way to go. She might as well let Derek lead. he was more knowing of this sort of thing. But Harue said she'd stop the gangs, and apparentally, with bloodshed if necessary.

Derek considered Harue for a moment, then nodded. He resheathed his knives. He strode towards the permanently open doors at the end of the hall and checked around the corner with a quick, darting movement of his head. Then he stepped out and started down another long corridor. He stopped. "I don't suppose you know which floor we're on," he said. "Doesn't need to be specific, just whether we're above or below ground level." Derek had totally lost track of their position in the building.

Harue looked out the door then back to Derek. "I think we're above ground still." She said, remembering all those flights of stairs.

Derek nodded, but jerked his head up at the metallica clanging coming from behind the undamaged doors. "Let's go," he said, with a note of urgency, and walked briskly towards the stairs.

Harue followed quickly, keeping a wary eye looking behind her and a firm grip upon the bag on her back.

(Could you progress the plot a little? I'm running out of ideas here.)

(*sigh* okay. Let's get the hell out of this building. It's really starting to get boring.)
Derek led Harue down the stairs, but he stopped as he spotted a pair of Owls guarding the door to the next floor. He hurried back up and down the hall. He burst through a door he picked at random, flung himself at the stunned Owl and a few moments later stood over his fallen foe, wiping off a dagger. He put it away and grunted with satisfaction as he walked towards a window on the far end of the room. He pulled it open and poked his head out, looking down. "I hope you aren't afraid of heights. It appears we are quite far above ground level." Without another word he leaped through the window, his cloak billowing out behind him as he dropped several stories toward the concrete below.

Harue watched with wide eyes as he jumped from the building onto the ground. She sighed, leaning out the window, looking down at him. "You're a freaking cat, Derek..." She muttered then jumped out of the window herself, gracefully landing near him on the sidewalk. She suddenly gave him a dirty look. "Only kill unless it is needed..." She muttered. "People may try to kill us but have a little pride as a sane human being." She turned, facing him directly. "Or have you ever even been sane?"

Derek considered Harue a moment. "Between showing pride, a highly overrated character trait, and surviving..." his voice trailed off. "Besides, by killing off a few Owls we're probably saving someone else a little bit farther down the line." He pulled on his hood to shield himself from the rain. "So," he said brightly, "Now that that's all cleared up, let's get away from here." Without another word he walked away, turning down a dark alley.
