Pharren pressed her gray lips together, refusing to speak to the Yautja as she continued to back up then let out a short "oof" as she backed into a wall. She was very small compared to the Yautja but that was normal. Yautja were normally very large and in opposite, her planet's native inhabitants were small and agile. And though she was a tall one of her species, she was no more than 4 feet tall. Maybe less. She thought over the Yautja's words for a moment and Pharren looked at her face to be sure she was telling the truth. Pharren's eyes bored into hers as she clenched her gold teeth tightly, not really wanting to say anything at all. She decided the Yautja could be trusted, but she thought this was rather unfortunate. She didn't want to speak to a Yautja, in fact, her mother had always forbidden it, saying that it was better to run from them but Pharren wanted to go home. What other choice did she have? "Pharren..." She said then hesitated, glaring at the Yautja though fear laced her eyes. "My name...Pharren." She stammered out in Yautian. "I come from Ixra-weh. Fifth moon of Madrina. Beautiful moon." She decided this was going well. Her mother had taught her Yautian well but it was still hard to get the accent and pronunciation correct. "Pharren...lost. Got hurt. Pharren better now."

"So you are better now? I found your blood trail. That is why I searched for you. I have never heard of your kind or your homeworld, and that is a strange thing indeed for me." M'yin-de said with a grin, spreading her upper mandibles. She inhaled raspily to speak again. "You speak Yautian well. How did you learn it? Few creatures try. Your name is... Phar'ren?" she said, having slight difficulty pronouncing the name. "I am honoured warrior, Arbitrator and Elder, Paya M'yin-de. But you can call me M'yin-de." The powerful female tilted her head to the side and regarded the tiny creature with hot orange eyes shadowed under pronounced brow ridges. Then a thought occured to her. "How did you get here? As far as I know, our ship is the only one on the ooman's world." M'yin-de gave a small cough and cleared her throat.

"Mother teach Pharren." Pharren murmured. "Pharren supposed to fear Yautja. Pharren feared M'yin-de. Still fear." She was slightly ashamed that she told the Yautja that she feared her but she was usually incredibly honest. "Ship needed repairs." Pharren stammered again. "Stopped on dark planet. Pharren wandered. Ship leave. Spikes hurt Pharren. Pharren better now." In her mind Pharren cursed herself for sounding like such a child. If only the Yautja spoke her language, she could see how many words she knew. Language was Pharren's best art. She knew many languages among the galaxies. Yautian being one. "Pharren wants to go home."

M'yin-de shrugged and crouched so that Pharren would not have to stare up at such a painful angle. "Most are afraid of us. We are what we are. I cannot help that I am a warrior." The child was being honest. She liked that. The Yautja were almost always honest with each other. It was hard to lie when all the little changes in body temperature that came when you were under stress were displayed for all to see. M'yin-de coughed again. This summer on Earth, though hot, was dry. They came from a very humid planet and could become dehydrated quickly. "Can you contact your people? The Pyode Amedha(soft meat, humans) are dangerous to all that are from off-planet. Several Yautja have been killed by them. It seems our technology appeals to them. I would not want your kind to be pursued by them." M'yin-de drew a small design in the dust with her right hand as she talked. "In fact, we are here to destroy several beasts who escaped by accident. I do not want to think what would happen if they started to breed here."

Pharren shook her head. Communications. She was not old enough to learn such special knowledge, though she was lucky it was open to her in the future. Pharren shook her head. Tears came to her eyes again but she hid them from M'yin-de by looking at the black paved road. "Pharren has not learned of such technology. Scarce on moon. Only for older students." She murmured. It was true, the closest Pharren got to technology was a couple super computers. The real technology was stored in a room where the older children live for a time, learning much about things they hadn't dreamt existed. "Pharren wants to go home!" She said again, louder then stared the Yautja in the face. "Take Pharren to Ixra-weh! Now! Please!"

M'yin-de sighed. "I cannot. It is not my ship that brought us here. We are not to leave until we have killed the Kainde Amedha. My warriors are stationed a small distance away, where the Kainde Amedha were last seen. They are waiting. I can take you there if you wish. The pilot of our ship can probably make contact with your people. Come with me." She stood and replaced the mask, attatching the hoses and wires, sucking in a deep breath in releif. She froze, sniffing the air. The oxygen and nitrogen concentration was increased, thanks to the technology of the mask and pack on her back. This also concentrated any scent particles that were none poisonous. A faint sour smell was in the air, one she recognized well. "Can you fight?" the Elder asked, reaching back to her naginata and slowly pulling it out.

"Depends." Pharren murmured, staring at M'yin-de. "Why?" Her eyes grew wide with fear. "Pharren can only fight a little." Again, this class of teaching was saved for when she was older. It was always the older children who went to war, not the old or the parents of children. Always the older children. "Pharren is afraid." She had never been a good fighter and could only fight the smaller of her species.

"I smell Kainde Amedha blood." She extended the weapon suddenly with a click. "An injured one is close by. Very close. My warriors must have been surprised." M'yin-de handed the naginata to Pharren. Luckily it was a light weapon. she clenched her right fist, twin blades two and a half feet long shooting from the bulge of metal on her prosthetic forearm. "Stay close. You will not have to fight if I can help it." M'yin-de turned slowly, scanning the buildings and alleys. She saw the tell tale sign that one had been by recently and was bleeding: steaming pits in the ground and walls.

PHarren's wide eyes stared at the ground then looked at the weapon M'yin-de had given her. She gave a slight gasp, never before touching a weapon before. Her race was very strict on weapons. No one was allowed to touch one except when hunting or when the older children went to war. She almost dropped it but she thought it rude to do that to M'yin-de's weapon. She held onto it but cursed herself in her mind for touching something as forbidden as a weapon. More forbidden though, was killing a living thing with it without permission. She certainly wasn't going to lay a hand on this wounded enemy. She followed M'yin-de, staring up at her tall form.

M'yin-de hissed softly, spotting the Kainde Amedha. It was clinging to the wall and was missing its forearm. "Up there. It doesn't know it has been seen. It is stalking us." She indicated it with a thrust of her chin. "Easy kill." M'yin-de muttered to herself with a grin. She crouched, spreading her arms wide in the Hiju, the proper stance for disemboweling an opponent. Then she roared.

Pharren gasped when she growled then actually dropped the weapon on accident this time but quickly picked it up again. She stared at the Kainde Amedha. She's actually going to kill that wounded creature?! Pharren thought then shook her head. Of course she'll kill it. If Pharren was older she'd probably have been killed too. She so very much regretted leaving the ship. I miss Mother. she thought again, hugging the weapon to her small chest.

The beast screeched and hurled itself off the wall, moving with surprising ease despite the fact it was wounded so terribly. It collided with M'yin-de, carrying her backwards. Almost immidiately, she threw it off again, snarling. It hissed and began pacing a circle around them. M'yin-de turned to follow it, keeping herself between it and Pharren. It made to leap again, but she rushed it, slashing with her ki'cti-pa(wristblades)! "You'll not get by me, pauk-de(expletive, f****er, f****ing). I've been killing you for centuries!"

Pharren watched the duel between the alien and the Yautja. She listened to M'yin-de's cursing but wasn't sure what it meant. She watched the alien the most and stepped back from the fight. Pharren still clutched the weapon. She suddenly screamed, throwing the weapon down and ran back to the alley and cowering there, waiting for the battle to be over. She had never seen anyone battle. Another thing that was forbidden. Her age group could not see a battle.

M'yin-de fastened her left hand around its throat, preventing it from biting her. Pharren screamed, but the warrior could not turn and look. She stomped on its tail as it thrashed, then drove her ki'cti-pa into the side of its head, killing it instantly. She stood up, panting slightly and planted a foot on the Kainde Amedha's chest, roaring and shaking her head, sending her dreadlocks flying. Taking its tail in one hand, M'yin-de looked around for Pharren. "Where are you? It is safe now." she called. Her naginata lay on the ground, the handle still glowing faintly from the heat of the child's hands. She stooped and picked it up, folding it back up and tucking it one-handed into its holder. She started walking after Pharren, dragging the slain beast behind her.
"Did it frighten you?" she asked, her rough voice softening. "Come. I'll take you to my warriors."

Pharren knelt on the hard ground, shuddering as she kept her hands to her mouth. "Pharren was frightened." She answered, looking up at her then shakily stood up. "Pharren is in trouble now. She has witnessed forbidden act. Held forbidden weapon." (sorry for shortness. I must leave!)
