"Oh no," Jake said. "Don't you go turning the question around at me." He was fairly sure the girl wouldn't hurt him, but he had his doubts.

(Yeah, go ahead. If you don't feel like reading all the posts, Jake has arrived at the school, only to find it deserted and partially destroyed. Then Kilisa's chracter startled him and yeah. Just read the last couple of posts.)

Kassi rose an eyebrow. "I'm Kassi, and the cat's Tommy. Now who're you, and watcha doin' here?" Tommy settled in her arms, purring, but still eyeing Jake as if he would do something bad.

"I'm Jake," he said warily. "I'm not quite sure what I'm doing here, but I think it's fairly important." he looked around the kitchen. "Do you happen to know what this place is?"

Kassi shrugged."Maybe, maybe not." She replied cautiously. "How'd you get here, and do you have any food? I'm starving." She looked around again. "Wonder if any of this junk's edible."

A figure hid well with a far off tree as her eyes peered down upon the two teens. She herself was one granted with special gifts though was fortunate enough to master them. Yet she knew that there was so much more to learn. Gradually she came down from the tree and approached the two people. She herself wore a brown shirt and jeans, as well as, black shoes. Her tawny hair was held back in a ponytail as she glanced at the two with dark brown eyes.
“It is.” She answered the girl’s question though by now she had acquired both of their names. There was edible food around though you might have to go a bit far off to get it. In the meantime she made no move to show that she was like them and decided to maintain her secrecy. “But if you want something cooked, there is a village not to far from here?” She explained so they would know that she was a native.

(I thought we were still in the kitchen.)
Jake looked from one girl to the other nervously for a moment, then turned around. "Is there anyone else who would care to reveal themselves now?" he called to his surroundings in an exasperated voice. He turned back to them after a moment. "I suppose you two know eachother," he said miserably, studying their faces carefully. He quinted at them. "But you might not at that." He sighed. "She's right," he continued, gesturing vaguely at the stranger. "There are some berries and nuts that are really quite filling. It's what I ate on my way here. I had a stockpile in my back...pack." His voice trailed off and his eyes widened as his hand reached for a bag which was clearly not on his back. Without another word he bolted away, stumbling. He sprinted through the gate and on down the path.

The girl glanced at both of the two newcomers. She wondered what they were doing here, if they even knew of the danger that they could be in. But instead of wandering she watched the boy sprint down the hill while guessing that he left his backpack somewhere. So she turned to the other girl that was there. Hand extended to welcome the stranger as the adults did in her town.
"M'names Lavana, who are you?"
There was a slight accent her talk a bit southern some would say. Yet she never minded it and paid no attention to those who teased her for it. She gave a small smile to the girl still unsure whether to trust her not. Having dealt with trust long ago she never planned to make the same mistakes again.

"Kassi." the girl replied, shifting Tommy so she could shake hands. "I s'pose we should go after him so he don't kill himself running down that hill..." she mused thoughtfully, then started following Jake, dropping Tommy on the ground.

She nodded her head in agreement as she carefully memorized the girl's name. With quick steps she followed after the to being careful not to fall down.

Jake was through the gate already, and he payed no heed to the branches that slapped at his face. He sped down the perilous trail, his eyes deperately searching the ground. His foot caught a tree root and he sprawled on the path, grimacing as something sharp stuck into his leg. He rose and staggered down the path, his eyes frantic. He continued in this manner until he spotted something black lying about a meter away from the path, and sighed loudly with relief. He stooped to pick it up and walked back down the path, examining the broken strap.
