"Yes, I know," he replied. "But do you really think charging in right now would be a good idea?" The sirens still sounded. "They aren't going to send everyone after us just like that. We're just a squad. So what'll they send after us? Another squad. Possibly two." Gordon inspected the hill. "Johnson, where are they at now?" he asked. Johnson informed him that they werre circling around, and would most likely hit the west side of the hill. Gordon tapped the link off and began giving instructions.

Tenoch sighed. "We aren't charging in. I'm going to dial up the code so we can get into the complex. That's why I came for this mission. Remember?" He took a look down at the buildings, pickiing up all sorts of radio transmissions...

Gordon stared at him blankly for a moment. "yeeeeah," he said, and unslung a small pack. He pulled from it a short rifle. He threw the sack aside and checked the power levels and plasma tanks. He patted it and oriented the sights.

Tenoch stopped, having grabbed what seemed to be a high-powered shotgun. "...You're saying that's not why I was supposed to come?" He said slowly.

"To be totally honest with you, I haven't the slightest inkling why you had to come," Gordon said. "I just get orders, I don't get them explained. All I was told was that a 'special operations unit' was to accompany my squad, and carry out his assigned mission." He screwed a short scope on top of the rifle and looked through it. He turned a dial slowly to sight it. When he was done, he took aim at a rocky outsrop some distance away. He loosed a shot and grunted triumohantly as it struck a trooper just above the chest. He watched as who appeared to be the leader pointed towards him. An old video he had seen flashed to mind. He smiled, and quoted it. "All right chaps, hold on to your nickers." He dropped the accent and squeezed off another shot. Gordon turned back towards the spec ops unit. "So what exactly is this mission of yours?"

"That's what you were supposed to tell me!" Tenoch said. "Great..." He muttered a few indistinguishable things. "Ok, we'd better get to work on the main objective, then we can find out who screwed up the breifing orders..."

"If they were indeed screwed up..." Gordon muttered, and without explaining further took aim and downed another squad member.

"Yeah, yeah. I doubt that misinformation would really be possible." Tenoch sighed. Having been armed for closer range than this, he was going to be useless. He hated being useless.

Daray spotted Tenoch's restlessness and turned to his 2 I.C. "We're going to go cut the off. You take over." The 2IC nodded. Gordon couldn't remember his name, but he knew he was competent and bright. "You up for a little bit of hunting?" Gordon asked Tenoch.

Gordon smiled. "Okay, you, a couple of the more experienced troops and I will circle around behind them. Johnson drove them into a shallow valley, so they have to walk single file and take a route prone to ambush." Gordon walked off, returning with two bulky squad members. "These two will accompany us. I explained it on the way over. Any objections or questions?"

Tenoch shook his head, calibrating his weapontry accordingly.

"Alrighty then, let's move. Stay low and keep quiet." Gordon headed off, followed closely by the two troops. He didn't check to see if Tenoch followed. As he moved he checked the pistol. To his left was a wide plateau, facing away from the city. To his right was a ledge that was about shoulder height. Immediately beyond that the ground dipped down into a shallow, narrow valley, which wound it's way through the rocky earth. Gordon gestured for everyone to hold their fire if they spotted something.

Gordon crept close to the edge of the valley, signalling for the rest of the squad to stay back. He peered cautiously over the ledge. Nothing. He crawled backwards, shook his head, and made his way farther down the rift.
