I dunno if this really applies to this board, but I'M SO TIRED OF PEOPLE GIVING ME FUNNY LOOKS WHEN THEY FIND OUT I'M WICCAN!
My friends are all open-minded and don't care or they are Wiccan too, but so many adults are like, "What, you're a witch?" and I'm like "Yeah, sort of." and then they are like, "That's nice." But they don't think that it's nice at all. Or people will see my pentacle and think I worship the devil. It makes me so very tired. It's not like I go about bespelling people. I don't do anything like that! I wouldn't even think about doing that! At least when I talk about other religions, I know what I'm talking about. I don't say things if I have only heard rumors and have no real backing for what I'm saying. Grrr...

*falls on the ground* people are cruel, Raptor, thats the honest to goodness truth Truth be told, I'm Christian and I only have some idea about wicca. I might get a little preachy, be warned. Daddy's a minister and the church is right across the street. *sweatdrop*
I think that we should treat everyone, no matter what, with the respect they deserve. As with your situation, people aren't treating you with the respect you deserve. Just because someone doesn't fit in with the cultural scheme of things, doesn't mean you have to be a jerk to them about it. And though I and a lot of people may not agree with your culture, face it Raptor; You freakin' rock out loud, and no one can say anything otherwise. Then again, I'm easy to please. ^_^

Oh my god, you're a Wiccan? That's horrible!
Wait, no it's not, it's your choice. Wiccan huh? To be honest, before now I had no idea what Wiccan was. Well I knew that there was a religion like that, but I didn't know the name. Sounds like you have to go through a lot of crap, stay strong, peace out XD.

I'm an Atheist.
Oddly enough, we're studing about Witch Burnings in European history in school right now...
I totally agree with Raven abou' the not giving the respect you deserve and such. It's really just plain stupid how people of TODAY'S society are STILL being intolerant to religions different to their own ; and we thought that we're smarter now then before. Maybe it's just my Atheist perspective of the world, but heck... why can't we all be friends, nice and tolerant of each other anyway ?
Anyway, I've always wanted to know about Wiccan culture... if everyone's okay with it... do you mind sharing a bit, Raptor ? =/

All right, here I go!
Wicca is a polytheistic(more than one deity) religion. We worship a Goddess and a God, sometimes known as the Lady and Horned King. Sometimes we will use the names of other deities in ritual if it suits the purpose of the spell or we are a different type of Wiccan. We are strongly influenced by Celtic, Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Native American religion. Wiccans do not beleive in Satan, Hell or Heaven. We instead believe in reincarnation and the Threefold Law. Everything we do, good or bad, will come back to us times three later in life. Not just magick, but everything. We do not perform spells against other people to manipulate them becuase of the Rule of Three. In Wicca, we use ritual and magick to influence our lives, such as bringing luck and happiness into our lives. We celebrate eight Sabbaths throughout the year. (this is on no particular order) They are Mabon, Yule, Samhain, Ostara, Litha, Beltane, Imbolc, and Lughnasadh. Also, every full moon, we perform an Esbat. Usually, we have a coven of other witches, but sometimes there are not other witches around, so you are a Solitary. I'm Solitary. We use an altar and a number of sacred items in ritual. These are: A cauldron to burn incense or make herbal mixtures. A black handled magick knife or Athame, to draw the circle, runes and to cut energy. This is never used to cut anything physical. A wand, often used in the same way as the Athame. A white handled knife or Bolline, to cut herbs and ritual cakes. Also, several other items may or may not appear on the altar such as a bell, rune set and many other items. It depends on the person.
That seems to be all for now... PS: Whyte, thanks for inviting me to the site. It was you, right?

Ooooh, interesting. Does the Wiccan religion have a book of some sort about their religion, like a bible? Well not a bible, but that's the best example I could think of. [/glow]

We spell magick that way to differentiate it between the fantasy type magic. And Insane, there really isn't a central book for all Wiccans, but most do write our own book of spells and experiances called a Book of Shadows. Some people have published theirs, and there are books for learners, so there are books, just not special, sacred ones. The nice thing about Wicca is that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion about it. Most people have different ideas. We all follow the Wiccan Rede though. That's sort of like the rules.

Hmm...cool. Now, this is a question that I really want an answer to. Do you critic other religions? I know I have been guilty of this before but most religions do it. Cept Buddism...or Hinduism...meh, I dunno. Answer? Also do you have some sort of god or sumptin of dat sort?

I haven't done many. I'm still learning. I've done one to find my totem animal and several to purify items. A nifty little one that I read about recently is if you find a cat's whisker that they have shed naturally, since you are not allowed to take anything from a living creature, and burn it, whispering a wish into the smoke, it will come true, within reason. Um, Wicca doesn't denounce other religions, though I have ranted about some on occasion. *hides face* But, I guess we all do at least once. What really bothers me is when people come to your house or ambush you at the bus stop and refuse to leave you alone even though you tell them you have your own beliefs until you take a stupid pamphlet. The only one I have a problem with is Mormonism. I'm sorry to all you Mormons, but yeah, I'm not getting started. Everyone has their issues. We have a Goddess and a God. They are called many names, depending on the person's beliefs and how they are being invoked.

Yeah Mormon sort of people, I think Jehova's witnesses who are not cool by the Christian book because they have written another bible, came to my house once. I live in front of the church I go to so this was our conversation.
Two guys, in their late teens, early twenties show up at my door: Is your father or mother here? Me: Nu. Guys: Oh. Will they be back soon? Me: I dunno. Guys: Do you believe in God and the son of God, Jesus Christ? Me: Duh. Guys: Do you go to church? Me: Yep. Guys: Where? Me; behind you. Guys: *look* oh. What is the pastor's name and where does he live? Me: You're looking at his daughter. Guys: Oh. Will you give him this pamphlet? *gives pamphlet* Me: I might. Guys: Okay. Well bye. Me: What's Jehova's witness? *looking at paper* Guys: *happy* Interested, little girl? Me: not really. Guys: Oh. Bye. *leave* Me:...bye.

*laughs* The last time some Jehova's Witnesses came to our house, they didn't leave for an hour. They kept trying to get us to go to their church and they brought out bibles to show us different passages that prove some wierd idea... I didn't pay very much attention. I was trying to give them the hint that maybe we weren't interested. I hoped they were afraid of snakes, so I brought out my baby corn snake, but nope. I glared at them all the time while they talked to my parental units. They tried too, they dropped the hint that we had company coming over and we had to cook and clean, but still. They were like leeches. I wanted to go up to them, dressed in my robe that I wear when I'm meditating and working in my circle, holding my Athame and tell them they had to leave because I was having my coven coming over for an esbat. It wasn't full moon and I don't belong to a coven, but I wanted to see the look of horror that would inevitably cross their faces. Curse my shyness. You got lucky. They weren't really determined. The lady who came looked like a fish.

well they would have stayed longer if my father was there and I would have just sat there listening, making rude remarkes when needed and hinting that they were incredibly wrong and that making another bible is WRONG

Heh, yeah. Once when I was looking up some info for Beltane celebrations, I found this site that some witch had created because she was tired of people giving her pamphlets. So, she made one for Wicca! It was funny and I would have taken some, but I don't order stuff off the internet. Once I got a booklet about what would happen if I wasn't a good Christian when I was trick or treating. It had some guy dreaming that he was going to hell and then changing his life after. That was before I was Wiccan. I've found some pretty wierd stuff in my sack before. Like a screwdriver. I'm serious. I dumped out my candy and there was a screwdriver, sitting on top. I was like, "Ooo-kaaayyy....."
