Karma made a face when she saw the cut on Lin's arm but then smiled and pulled her sleeve back down. Karma picked up her five cards. "I won't go easy on you this time." She said. She was suddenly aware that the horses were moving. It would have made her sick to her stomach if she was there alone. But no. Linny was there and that was all that mattered at the moment. Another truth was that Karma NEVER went easy on anyone. Especially Lin. "Hang on a second." She murmured. "Let me pray to God that luck is on my side today." Karma smiled at Lin again and she just watched Lin's shining eyes.
(Uhm...me don't really know how to play poker very well...<.<')

(It's pretty easy. Just uh...you get five cards, and usually there are 3 discards, during which you can exchange as many cards as you like with ones from the deck. The point is to get the best combination of cards. The very best is a royal flush, which means you have a 10, jack, queen, king, and ace of the same suite. The lowest you can get is like, one pair. If you're betting, you place an initial bet, then like, every time it comes around to you you can raise the bet, and if the other players don't see you, they fold. It's simple, yet complicated.)
Roth turned to Lin, realizing he might not have much experience driving wagons. "It's fairly straightforward," he said, "You only really need to steer them in the town. Once we're clear, and there's only one road, they'll pretty much steer themselves. You just need to keep an eye on them, otherwise they might start to feel creative, and try to take shortcuts." He looked at the horses pulling his wagon thoughtfully, then sat back. "You'd best get comfortable. This is bound to be a long, boring trip."

Lin had a good hand, by her standards anyways. Most would not have thought so, but she knew how to use it. As the game progressed it became obvious: either Lin had the gift of foresight or Lady Luck really loved her.
After several rounds she was deffinatly in the lead. Clearly she had no intention of giving Karma any leeway

Karma bit her lip then lowered his head in a sigh. "I'm not giving up..." She muttered then fell backwards. "But, dangit, WHY?!" She sat up again and looked through her hand. Youch. Lin seemed to have the best luck. When Karma was younger she could have sworn the annoying midget of a girl was some sort of leprechaun... fairy... thing...

The game progressed and Lin lost some ground, the small coins they used seeming to float between the pile in the middle and the small stashes in front of the two girls. Then the tables tilted dramatically so that it seemed Karma was going to win the rest of the pot. Drawing her next card an incredibly evil smile crossed over Lin's face.
"I won't be keepin' any secret's from you Karma..."

"You, my dear, are sneaky." Karma muttered watching Lin and squinting at the backs of her cards. Even though it looked like Karma would win, she could never expect these sort of things for long. It was strange she had gotten this far. Karma, not being very optimistic at the moment chewed at the inside of her lip, looking at her hand. It was fairly good, but probably not better than anything that Lin just pulled out of the deck.

Lin laughed and played her hand- the deciding hand as it happened, giving her the pile and effectively winning the game. She grinned, burst into a small fit of giggles and finally hugged herself.
"Silly spirit! You like games, don't you?" And she giggled harder before launching herself onto Karma.

Karma couldn't help but laugh as she took the girl into her arms and hugged her as she fell onto the floor. "Okay, okay! You win. Now get off me and close your eyes! I'm not cheating you out of your prize, I swear." She pushed Lin away from her playfully and pulled her bag over and searched through it and closed something into her fist then took it out of the bag. "Ready?"

Lin's giggles never ceased as she sat down cross-legged and covered her eyes with her hands, resisting the urge to peek. What does Karma have for me? She wondered, a rather silly smile pasted to her face.

Karma opened her hand. "Okay, open your eyes!" She said with a small delighted squeel. Inside her hand was what looked like a black shiney rock that went straight through a large cold coin. "I knew you'd probably try to get it from me if I ever showed you the moment I got it." Karma explained. "A few years ago I think, someone was selling everything he had because he had lost all his wealth somehow. Anywho, he had a few pieces of jewelry and this odd thing, so I bought it. Bought it cheaper than it seems to be worth but in the grand scheme of things, it was a great bargain."

Lin squeaked in delight and the stone-coin-thing seemed to disappear, so quickly and deftly did she take it; thus her skills as a thief. "Thank you Karma!" She hugged the girl before sitting on a bag of supplies, content to turn the object around in her hands and examine it, muttering to herself various stone names and other names, seemingly try to figure out its origins and its worth.

Karma folded her arms behind her head and watched Lin mutter and flip the stone around in her hands, smiling. Who knows? Was Karma truly being nice or was she just in a good mood. "I'm not sure what it is either." She murmured. |

(Sorry I haven't been posting in role-plays lately. I've had so much homework this past week, and only enough time to sneak in a short post here and there. I'm trying to keep my marks up this semester, since my last report card redefined mediocre.)
Roth dozed lightly and held the reins negligently in one hand. He was sprawled languidly across the seat, and his staff was lying in the back of the wagon somewhere. Despite Roth's outward appearance of inactivity, his mind probed the trail several leagues ahead for anything suspicious, so they would have ample time to prepare for any threats. His thoughts passed lazily over the trail, scanning the dirt path. There was nothing out of the ordinary, and he let his thoughts drift back towards him. About half a league out, he felt something brush his thoughts very lightly. He paused, a bit startled. He followed the trail the other presence had left, and came to a very ordinary looking section of the trail. He looked at it carefully, and a rather large area shimmered slightly. He swore loudly, and began to gather his concentration, shaping it into a sort of spike, and driving it forcefully at the area that had shimmered. A dome that was perhaps twenty yards across, and about five yards high shimmered violently, waves rippling out from the spot where Roth's spike had struck. Then it cracked and shattered into thousands of pieces of nothingness. As it vanished, three figures on horseback clutched their hooded heads and screamed, one of them dropping out of his horse. It was obvious what the illusion had been hiding, as perhaps twenty large figures on horseback and clad in dark armor is rather hard to miss. They gave a startled look around them, at the bubble that was no longer their, and twenty swords were drawn with a loud, steely rasp. One figure, who rode in the center of the ranks and was clad in a red cloak smiled a thin-lipped smile, and barked a command. The soldiers pushed their war horses into a gallop, stirring up a large cloud of dust in their wake. Roth's consciousness snapped back into his head, and he sat bolt upright. His face was pale, and he jumped off the wagon and ran back to the others. "We have a problem," he said urgently. His eyes grew wide for a moment as he saw the black stone in Lin's hand, but he shook his head. "There are about twenty soldiers headed this way. They're about half a league out, and closing in fast. Also, there are four sorcerers with them. Three of them were weaker, and will be taking a nap for a little while. The fourth might prove to be a bit more challenging. He's of the Red Order, and I think he's their leader. Leave him to me." He stamped his feet impatiently. "I think a fight is inevitable now. I think they knew we were here before I shattered their bubble. Their armor is weakest at the joints. If you take a hit, break the sword that hit you, otherwise some unpleasant things may start to happen. Now let's get these wagons off the road." He began to walk away. "Oh," he said, something occuring to him. "A couple of them may be wearing a light green tunic instead of armor. Those are Hroliks, a race of assassins who sometimes aid the Dark Lord. Be very wary of them and their daggers. The closer you get to them, the lower your chances of survival." Then he headed back to the first wagon, and led the horses off the path a good way.
(Okay, more plot progression. Hurrah!)

(yay!....me and Lin's game was fun though!)
Karma listened to Roth carefully then pulled her chained syckle from off the wagon floor. "I'll take a few heads." She said then gestured to Lin to get up and fight or take cover. Whatever the little fairy did. Karma jumped out of the wagon and squinted out, watching for the soldiers, wrapping the chain of her weapon around her wrist a few times and holding onto the handle tightly. "I need them in close range to see their true weak points." She said, not going by armor weakness but justbody weakness in itself.

"You won't find many, I'm afraid," said Roth, leaning on his staff. "These aren't ordinary soldiers, by any means." He could see the cloud of dust growing nearer. "Now, I'm going to have my hands full with their leader, so I'm going to need at least one of you to stay close," he said, absently drawing shapes in the dirt with the end of his staff. "And I'd stay out from in between him and I."
