(yeah, that'd be kinda weird O.o) "I don't know." Harue murmured. 'I don't want to kill anyone...I've established that but still, I don't want to get killed either. I need to talk to these guys then fight if I have to.' She thought and glanced back at Derek. "I really don't need you here...why don't you go home or...wherever." She muttered

"I do have my own reasons for being here," said Derek matter-of-factly. A noise in the room beside him made him jump a little bit, and he brought the knife that was picking nails flat against his wrist...or tried to, at least. His timing was off by a fraction of a second, but the knife sailed in a smooth arc up and away from him. It was during this time that he made two mistakes. As he fumbled the knife, he automatically swore quite loudly. Loudly enough to inspire a groggy, "Whozere?" from the room. His second mistake was that he tried to chase the knife. This second mistake wouldn't have been so bad had the knife not gone over the stairs. Even this wouldn't have been so bad had Derek not attempted to make a dramatic diving catch. The clatter of the knife on the stairs was the sound of a pin dropping next to the crash Derek produced as he landed rather awkwardly on the staircase about halfway down, and tumbled soundly the rest of the way down. All this amid the chorus of colorfully obscenities that poured from Derek's mouth. Derek realized that they were in very big trouble indeed before he came to a complete halt. Derek lay sprawled at the foot of the stairs, momentarily stunned. He tested his limbs and arrived the conclusion that nothing was broken. This didn't alter the fact that any sort of movement induced agonizing pain.

Harue cursed once as well and looked at one door that had opened. She jumped down the stairs and took Derek's hand in hers. "This is why I told you to leave, you idiot!" She said in a harsh whisper and looked to the other flight of stairs. "hurry up." She muttered, dragging him along the stairs. She didn't realize this caused him a great deal of pain but she held his hand tightly as she jumped a lot of the stairs. "We're almost there!" She yelled back at him.

Derek bounced along the floor like a rag doll. Something was definitely broken now. "Would...you...stop!!" he yelled, the statement punctuated by gasps of pain. 'If...there's...a fight...I'd rather...have...the use of...my legs!!" As they sped past a guardrail, Derek caught it in a death grip.

Harue stopped with him and looked to him. "You're such a baby..." She muttered, letting go of his hand. "It was just a little slip and fall...and it wouldn't have been if you had hurried up like I had told you."

Derek started to protest, but found that talking caused excruciating pain in his entire face. Instead he glared at her. He flexed his fingers experimentally, and felt them zing a little bit the first couple of times. Eventually they felt normal. He pulled several knives out of his cloak and they disappeared up his sleeves as he turned and walked with a slight limp back the way they had just come. He pushed through a door and let it slam loudly behind him.

Harue stared at where Derek had once been then sighed. "I suppose it is sort of chicken to run..." She muttered to herself then quickly darted after him, slipping the backpack of weapons off her shoulders. She went through the door he had gone through and stared at him. "Sorry...I-" She was cut off when she saw a few of the Owls, in their armor and with the high tech weapons, all in their shiny glory.

Derek was crouched in the deep shadows in the corner. He made as if to grab her, but burning pain shot up his extended arm, and he let it fall. His knuckle hit the floor and produced a small crack, and Derek screwed up his face in pain. "Get down!" he whispered urgently.

Harue looked down to him then got down as directed, silently and swiftly. The Owls looked around but they couldn't see Derek or Harue in the deep black shadows. Harue stared out at them, praying not to be caught. She glanced at Derek a moment then looked back to the Owls.

Derek thought a moment, before pulling Harue back beside him. He pulled off his cloak, which seemed to grow a bit, and threw it over them, being careful not to let it flutter into the Owls' sight. He felt the cloak settle, and held his breath as the footsteps drew nearer.

When Harue felt Derek pull her closer to him it shocked her at first and she was about to tell him to stop whatever he was doing but she just relaxed. She felt the cloak land like a bird with the most delicate paper wings around her shoulder and also felt its warmth. She stared out at the Owls but she was mostly thinking how protected she felt at the moment. It surprised her. She had thought of him as cold...she didn't know why but he just seemed like that kind of person. His body was warm as half her body leaned against it. It was comforting, and she confessed this within her mind. She had told herself she needed no help, but she was just a girl. Maybe with a few weapons and some months of fox training, but a girl none the less. He was trained and probably undefeatable. She just realized she hadn't ever thought of him or called him by his name. Derek. She supposed it was because he was a pain in the butt. Harue also realized that she owed him now. If she had gone any further the Owls would have killer her on the spot. She turned her attention to Derek and stared at his eyes that still watched the Owls.

(I'm sorry, I feel terrible about not replying for so long. I've been so busy. When I do come on to the Black Haven I'm usually doing other stuff and trying to sort stuff out, and have time for like, a couple of little posts. I've been totally stressed out this past couple of weeks. I'll get around to replying soon. Sorry!)
